Stressif among the most common psychological conditions in the modernworld. Stress affects the mental, psychological, and the biologicalsystem of the human beings. Most of the researchers have addressedthe effect and the management of stress among students and parents(Lin & Yusoff, 2013), while a few have focused on the managementof work-related stress. The present research will analyze theeffectiveness of the support group in stress management and therelationship between the level of the blood pressure and the use ofsupport groups in stress management.
Thegoal of the present research is to explore the key perceived benefitsof using social support as the most appropriate strategy for managingstress at the place of work and the effect of social support on themanagement of the level of blood pressure. The findings of theresearch will make a significant contribution to the available bodyof knowledge on the management of stress among employees and theeffectiveness of the social support strategy.
How do employees perceive the benefits of managing stress using the social support approach?
How do the blood pressure readings change or vary with respect to perceived benefits of using social support in the management of stress?
Employeeswho use social support in managing stress have lower levels of bloodpressure compared to employees who do not use the social supportapproach.
Thepresent research seeks to assess the effectiveness of the use ofsocial support in the management of stress among employees anddetermine the relationship between the use of social support and thelevel of blood pressure. This purpose will be accomplished throughmixed research design. A mixed research design has been selected thepresent study because it allows researchers to explore the datasetand comprehend its meaning and apply one approach to verify theresults of the other approach (Onwuegbuzue & Leech, 2015).
Thepopulation targeted by the present study is a group of employees agedbetween 20 and 55 years and working in different organizations with aminimum of 20 employees. The sample will consist of 25 employees, whowill be selected randomly from a population of those who will respondto a notice for participation that will be posted on the noticeboards of the targeted organizations. This population has beenselected because of the assumed impact that stress has on theirefficiency at work.
Datacollection will be accomplished using the semi-structured interviewthat will cover different aspects of the effectiveness of socialsupport in the management of stress. A semi-structured interview ispreferred as a data collection instrument because it is flexible toallow participants to make additional contributions depending ontheir experience (Keller, 2015). The quantitative party of the datawill be obtained by measuring the levels of blood pressure ofparticipants during the interviews.
Themajor threats of validity likely to be experienced in the presentresearch include treatment interferences, selection of variables,statistical regression, and testing. The reliability and validity ofthe data will be maintained by pre-testing the semi-structured set ofquestions to determine if they can help in the collection of reliabledata during the actual research. The validity will also be ensureddocumenting all stages of data collection and analysis.
Thedata will be analyzed using the interpretive phenomenologicalanalysis. The qualitative part of the data will be analyzed byreviewing transcripts where coding will then be checked to ensurethat the meanings are consistent across the coding. For thequantitative part of the data, the researcher will use descriptiveanalysis, including the mean, range of scores, and the standarddeviation. In addition, the researcher will use correlationalanalysis to determine whether the relationship between the bloodpressure levels and social support is statistically significant.
Thekey ethical principles (including the confidentiality and respect forintellectual property) will be observed throughout the research. Inaddition, the researcher will follow the rules of an informedconsent. The informed consent will inform the study participantsabout their right to accept and decline participation, the purpose ofthe research, prospective benefits, and limits of confidentiality(Resnik, 2011).
Stressis among the key factors that can reduce efficiency and productivityof employees. Although the use of social support in the management ofstress is supported by many psychologists, a study that assesses itseffectiveness in managing work-related stress can expand itsapplication. In addition, empirical findings that indicate therelationship between the use of social support and the level of bloodpressure among employees will expand the current body of knowledge.
