Ihave been interested in joining a medical school since I was a youngboy. My curiosity of being a doctor began after I learnt about thechallenge I underwent while I was a child. Due to the efforts ofdoctors who took care of me when I was born with a life threateningmedical condition, I am alive today. I was born with a congenitalanomaly. In the first day of my life, I had to undergo a four hourssurgery to correct the anomaly. At three months, my colostomy wasoperated again after I was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect.Additionally, I had to undergo an open heart surgery at the age oftwo years. After learning about my health history from my parents, adesire to be a pediatrician started developing. While I was young, Iinteracted directly with pediatricians in the United States and inIndia. The doctors made a huge difference in my life. I would like tobe a pediatrician and save the lives of child, in the same waydoctors worked hard to save my life. I understand that by being apediatrician, the life of my patients will be dependent on myactions. My actions or inaction may mean life or death.
Ihave been involved in various voluntary and community service. Duringmy vacations I always work as a volunteer, in medical facilities andemergency services department. It is my conviction that moreexperience in the medical field through voluntary work will increasemy chances of being admitted in a medical school. Moreover, it willintroduce me to some of the basic medical procedures and thereforemake me a better medical student. I have been involved in communitywork at Emergency Medical Squad at Woodbridge Township Ambulance andRescue Squad and volunteer at JFK Hospital among other voluntaryservices in the United States and India.
Iam interested in joining Rutgers University-Newark College of Arts &Sciences. I have studied in the state of New Jersey at the MiddlesexCounty Academy for Allied Health and Biomedical Sciences. Thelocation of the school is therefore convenient for me. One of thefactors that attract me to the RutgersUniversity-Newark College of Arts & Sciences is the diversity ofthe student population. It is rated as one of the most diversecampuses in the United States. I would like to contribute to thisdiversity, in addition of benefits of learning in a culturallydiverse environment. Despite of my childhood health challenges whichlimited my ability to participate in intensive sports, I am achampion in NewJersey State Field Archery Association Indoor Championship in YoungAdult Male Recurve category.
RutgersUniversity-Newark College of Arts & Sciences is one of theleading research institutions in the state of New Jersey and theUnited States. This is the main reason why I would like to join thecollege. The college administration expresses their commitment toensuring that student have the best experience and favorableenvironment for learning. The institution has an inspiring motto “Soliustitiae et occidentem illustra” which translates into “sun ofrighteousness, shine upon the west also”. Additionally, theadministration, teaching, support staff and the student community istolerant to racial, ethnicity, nationality, gender diversity. Therefore, as a person of Indian origin, I will feel more comfortablein the institution compared to other less racially diverse colleges.
