Messianic Prophesy #1

Thefirst prophesy in in the book of Micah 5:2 (NKJV) “but you,Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to me the one to be the rulerin Israel, whose going forth have been from of old, from everlasting(Kennedyet al., 2008).”The fulfillment of this prophesy is in Matthew 2:4-6 “4 And when hehad gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the peopletogether, he inquired of them where the Christ was born. 5 so theysaid to him ‘In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by theprophet: 6 but you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are not theleast among the rulers of Judah for out of you shall come a rulerwho will shepherd my people Israel.’ ”

Thenext prophesy is in Malachi 3:1 “Behold I send My Messenger, and hewill prepare the way before me. And the Lord, whom you seek, willsuddenly come to His temple, even the Messenger of the covenant, inwhom you delight. Behold, he is coming says the Lord of Hosts.” Itsfulfillment is in Mark 1:2-8 “ 2 as it is written in the prophets:‘Behold, I send My Messenger before your face, who will prepareyour way before you’.3 ‘the voice is crying in the wilderness:prepare the way of the Lord make His paths straight.’ 4 John camebaptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance forthe remission of sins. 5 and all the land of Judea, and those fromJerusalem, went out to him and were all baptized by him in the JordanRiver, confessing their sins. 6 Now John was clothed with camel’shair and with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts andwild honey. 7 and he preached, saying ‘there comes one after me whois mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop downand loose. 8 ‘I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptizeyou with the Holy Spirit (Lockyer,1988).’

Thethird prophesy is in Zechariah 9:9 “rejoice greatly, o daughter ofZion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming toyou He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, acolt, the foal of a donkey (Kennedyet al., 2008). Its fulfillment is in Matthew 21: 4-11

4&nbspAll[b]&nbspthiswas done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying:

5&nbsp“Tellthe daughter of Zion,‘Behold, your King is coming to you,Lowly, and sitting on a donkey,Acolt, the foal of a donkey.’”[c]

6&nbspSothe disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them.&nbsp7&nbspTheybrought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, andset&nbspHim[d]&nbsponthem.&nbsp8&nbspAnda very great multitude spread their clothes on the road others cutdown branches from the trees and spread&nbspthem&nbsponthe road.&nbsp9&nbspThenthe multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:

“Hosannato the Son of David!‘Blessed&nbspis&nbspHewho comes in the name of the Lord!’[e]Hosannain the highest!”

10&nbspAndwhen He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, “Whois this?”

11&nbspSothe multitudes said, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth ofGalilee.”

Theother prophesy is in Psalms 41: 9 “even my own familiar friend inwhom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me.”Its fulfillment is in Luke 22:21”but behold, the hand of mybetrayer is with Me on the table (Lockyer,1988).”

Anotherprophesy is in the book of Zechariah 11:12 “then I said to them,‘if it is agreeable to you, give me my wages and if not, refrain.’So they weighed out for my wages thirty pieces of silver.” Itsfulfillment is in the book of Matthew 26:15 “and said, ‘what areyou willing to give me if I deliver him to you?’ and they countedout to him thirty pieces of silver.”

Thenext prophesy is found in the book of Zechariah 11:13 “and the Lordsaid to me, ‘throw it to the potter’ that princely price they seton me. So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into thehouse of the LORD for the potter.” It was fulfilled in the book ofMatthew 27:3-10: 3&nbspThenJudas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, wasremorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chiefpriests and elders,&nbsp4&nbspsaying,“I have sinned by betraying innocent blood (Kennedyet al., 2008).”

Andthey said, “What&nbspisthat&nbsptous? You see&nbsptoit!

5&nbspThenhe threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, andwent and hanged himself.

6&nbspButthe chief priests took the silver pieces and said, “It is notlawful to put them into the treasury, because they are the price ofblood.”&nbsp7&nbspAndthey consulted together and bought with them the potter’s field, tobury strangers in.&nbsp8&nbspThereforethat field has been called the Field of Blood to this day.

9&nbspThenwas fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying,&nbsp“Andthey took the thirty pieces of silver, the value of Him who waspriced, whom they of the children of Israel priced,&nbsp10&nbspandgave them for the potter’s field, as the&nbspLord&nbspdirectedme.”

Theother prophesy is in the book of Isaiah 53:7 “He was oppressed andHe was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth, He was led as a lambto the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so Heopened not his mouth (Kennedyet al., 2008).” Its fulfillmentis in the book of Mark 14: 60-61 “60 and the high priest stood upin the midst and asked Jesus, saying, ‘do you answer nothing?’what is it these men testify against you? 61 but He kept silent andanswered nothing. Again the high priest asked Him, saying to Him,‘are You the Christ, the son of the blessed?’”

Thelast prophesy to be addressed is in the book of Psalms 22:16 “fordogs have surrounded Me The assembly of the wicked has enclosed Me.They pierced My hands and My feet.” Its fulfillment is in the bookof John 19:17-18 “17 and He, bearing His cross, went out to a placecalled the place of a skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, 18where they crucified Him, and two others with Hi, one on either side, and Jesus in the center (Lockyer,1988).”

Allthese scriptures are revealing undeniable proof that Jesus Christ wasthe Messiah who was prophesied by the Old Testament prophets. However, the prophecy of Malachi 3:1 spoke to me most. It alignsperfectly with the story of the John the Baptist. He used to preachin the wilderness telling people to repent for the Kingdom of God isat hand (Lockyer,1988). He is quoted in the book of Mark chapter 1verses 7 that there is coming another one who is Mightier than Him.John also noted that Jesus the real Messiah who he had been sayingwas coming after him in the book of John 1:30. The fact that Johnconfirms that Jesus Christ is the Messiah stands to be a fact thatcannot be objected. This prophesy spoke to me most because theindividual who was prophesied that he will make the way for theMessiah confirmed that in deed Jesus Christ is the Messiah who wasprophesied.

Asfar as these prophesies and their fulfillment is concerned I stronglybelieve that they were proofing that Jesus was the Messiah. Althoughsome people have different opinions on this issue, my stand is thatthis prophesies and their fulfillment gave undeniable proof thatJesus Christ is the Messiah. The main reason as to why I believe thisprophesies and their fulfillments reveal that Jesus Christ is theMessiah is that all the scriptures match perfectly. Zechariah 11:12indicated that the wages of His betrayal will be 30 pieces of silver(Kennedy etal., 2008). The book of Matthew 26:15 indicates verywell that Jesus was sold 30 pieces of silver. The second fact thatmakes me believe that Jesus Christ was the Messiah is because JesusChrist is the only person who possesses and is encompassed in thefulfillment of all these prophesies.

Theprophesy in the book of Psalms 41:9 records that He is being betrayedby one who is familiar with Him and have ate bread with. In theentire Bible only Jesus who was betrayed by His closest person JudasIscariot. The fact that He was His disciple indicates that He wasfamiliar with Him and he had dined with Jesus Christ. The fact thatthere is no other scenario that have resembled that in the biblereveals that these prophesies proof that Jesus Christ is the Messiah.Even though the name of Jesus have not been directly mentioned thefact that the fulfillment of these prophesies address to one manJesus Christ, He is the real Messiah (Lockyer,1988).

Toall the classmates who have different opinions that these prophesiescould have been addressing someone else but no Jesus Christ, it is ahigh chance to review your thoughts. All these prophesies touchedJesus’s life and John testified that Jesus Christ is indeed the onehe was preparing the way for as well as who was prophesied.

Tothe classmates who are on my side, there are more scriptures in theBible which are these prophesies and the fulfillment of Jesus Christas the Messiah. In fact there are scriptures which prophesy that thechild who was to be born would be called Jesus Christ and He will bethe Messiah. Extensive study of the word will give more evidence thatJesus Christ is the Messiah.
