Dueto the issue of globalization most of the countries have experiencedboth physical and technological growth. Globalization is a worldwidemovement that is used to refer to the technology advancement,integration of trade, financial, and communication strategies. Consequently, according to Siochru (2004), globalization means thecreation of both locals and nationalistic developments that whenlooked broadly it shows an independent and interconnected nation. Inadditionally, globalization is used to show a nation is undergoingthrough “free” transfer of goods, capital, and services bothwithin and outside the country (Siochru, 2004, p. 43). Moreover,personally, I strong feel that the issue of globalization does notencourage unhindered groups that concern labor. Additionally, itseems that for a country to have positive economic growth,globalization should be part and parcel of its development agenda.However, in the area of social media, mass media has played a greatrole in improving culture, facilities, and the flow of informationthus promoting globalization (Artz& Kamalipour, 2012).For example, it is possible to communicate internationally which wasnot easier before. Moreover, in today’s communications platforms,it is possible to have a video conversation with a loved one who ishundreds of miles away a good example is the use of Skype.
Consequently,my stand is that mass media has played the role of promotingglobalization and creation of the image that exist between differentcountries this have being achieved through internationalbroadcasting of news, modern films, television programs, high-qualitymusic, and the use of new technologies. For example, according toBennett (2000), the mainstream media system that was used before1990’s by the developing countries were more or less national inscope. However, with time, most of the countries have taken theirmedia systems to another level where they have become increasinglyglobal. As a result, it is evident that the issue of globalizationhas taken roots in mass media thus promoting stable and reliableplatforms for social media (Artz& Kamalipour, 2012).
Forthese reasons, I believe that social media have conquered millions ofaudiences across the globe due to globalization this has extendedthe reach of more people and promotes the international flow ofinformation. Briggs & Burke (2010) affirm that the stable flow ofinternational information through social media has been enhanced byrapid technological growth and development of stable globalcapitalism. On the other hand, I am convinced that the issue ofincreased commercialization of global social sites such Facebook,Twitter, and many others has promoted communication and informationflow that enhancing globalization to a greater extent.
Consequently,I strongly feel that social media globalization cannot be stopped.This is because the rapid growth experienced in social media hasresulted from new communication strategies that are based on themodern technology. Additionally, according to Wanta,Golan, & Lee (2004),social media can be taken as the prerequisite and the overallfacilitator of all other forms of globalization. As a result, it canbe concluded that multi-national media is paramount to enhance growthin the global industries. Additionally, most of the people areenjoying the great benefits of social media globalization such asfast communication both locally and internationally and stable flowof information. However, it is good to note that, despite thebenefits of social media globalization, there are some limitationsthat face the users of social media. Firstly, globalization hascaused hindrance in freedom of speech because people are beingmonitored by mainstream media systems.
